Aden Solomon Candidate for Assembly (First Year) | My Name is Aden Solomon, I am a first-year student, policy studies major from Manhattan, New York City. Advocacy has been a passion of mine since I was eleven years old. As an eleven-year-old, I established a website called “kidsatcode.com” that aimed to connect children who were passionate about coding (like I was at the time) with each other and offer free resources to further their passion. Throughout the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, I decided to pursue advocacy initiatives in my local community. I applied and was accepted to Fmr. Congressman Max Rose’s re-election campaign in Staten Island, being appointed to run community outreach initiatives. Part of my duties included surveying and compiling issues that resonated with the congressman’s constituents, delivering the issues to the database, serving as a knowledge-hub for questions concerning free school-provided lunches during Covid school closures, mail-in voting registrations and covid test site information. The listening and surveying skills I gained through performing these outreach initiatives will directly help me on serving as the voice for freshman for legislative change. Treating the student assembly as a congressional floor with ideas flying around left and right will be my strategy in provoking meaningful dialogue for change. As a member of the Brooklyn Technical HS Model UN team I am comfortable in my willingness to deliver a competent argument, and create compromise as a means to provoke meaningful change. My first goal as a freshman liaison to the student association will be creating a test-corrections policy aimed at helping first-year students better adjust to independent time management, college workloads and expectations. Through this policy I hope to create a more seamless transition for all incoming first-year students at SU. |

Aden Solomon Candidate for Assembly (First Year) |
I want to join the Student Association because I want to make a positive impact during
my time here at Syracuse. My goal is to help make Syracuse reach its fullest potential in every
way possible. As a social person, I enjoy helping and connecting with others. Hearing and
understanding various perspectives is something that I enjoy doing. I want to give voice and
encourage students to use their voice in order to help strengthen student affairs. I was extremely
engaged throughout my high school career, and I wish to continue that here at Syracuse. I believe
that joining the Student Association is the best way for me to continue this engagement in my
new community. My contribution to my high school student council has been extensive. Having been a member for all four years of my high school career, I have been an integral part in helping to improve student affairs. I’ve spent much of my free time brainstorming and organizing ideas with other members of the student board to improve Salesian. In addition, I have reached out to other students and encouraged them to share their opinions and make their voices heard in order to achieve these collective goals for positive development. I’ve pitched opportunities that have run successfully such as GoFundMe pages for our charity drives, organizing a future Twitch stream event to help raise money for a collection of charities, formulating interactive opportunities via Discord and other platforms to allow students to spend time together throughout quarantine, as well as concocting various virtual games for students to participate in to inspire the student body for Spirit Week. |
Stephanie Duan Candidate for Assembly (First Year) |
As an incoming first-year student with more than four years of experience in student
government, working closely with administrators and students alike, I am extremely interested in
the role of First Year Assembly representative on Student Association, as I believe that I can both
benefit from the position and further the goals of the organization. I strongly believe in the power
of representation and advocacy that SA allows to happen through the elections. As a First-Year representative, I can strongly speak for first-year students, through my experience as the Student Advisory Council Vice-Chair in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District. There, I was tasked with the responsibility of representing all seven student governments in the district to the board, weighing in on crucial decisions, especially on COVID-19 re-opening plans. Having this experience on a smaller scale will allow me to work with other assembly members to create a similar open environment here at Syracuse University. SA’s initiatives, such as the Menstrual Product Initiative, also intrigue me and motivate me to become an active member. Establishing the Students Against Sexual Assault organization in FJUHSD because of a wide call in our student body, our main goal was to have the district board adopt new consent and bias training for both students and staff, which they have moved forward with for staff members, as of this year. This experience of petitioning, addressing administrators, and advocating for those who could not allow me to believe that I can do the same on initiatives at SA if the need calls for it by the student body. I believe in the power of us students to be the change for what we need and want. I believe that as a First-Year Assembly Representative, I can contribute to making sure all our voices are heard. |
Torryn Sales Candidate for Assembly (First Year) |
My name is Torryn Sales and I’m currently a freshman at Syracuse University studying biotechnology in the college of Arts
and Science. I’m from Houston Texas and I’m interested in running for the First-Year assembly position.
After learning about student government and understanding its significance I believe I will be an ideal candidate for this
position. In addition, I am excited about the training in leadership, and the opportunity to participate in crafting
policies that affect me and my colleagues. Since arriving at Syracuse, I have been able to quickly immerse myself in the orange experience. I understand the culture of the community and identify with the educational and social training it offers. While socializing with other students, attending involvement fairs or talking with Syracuse faculty and staff, I found myself amazed by the opportunities and amenities that are available through the school. I have been involved in leadership roles throughout my high school education that I can relate to the First-year assembly position. As a member of the Jack and Jill of America organization, I held leadership positions such as the historian and parliamentarian and I’ve been a part of the National Honor society and key club in high school. Additionally, I’ve been recruited to become an ambassador for Scholarship Owl where I am building relationships not only within Syracuse but also in the surrounding community. I enjoy learning and sharing my experiences to support other Syracuse students and the Syracuse community. As a college Freshman I believe that it’s very important for those who are the most inexperienced on campus to feel that their voice is heard and that there are changes being made to support them. Also, I believe that with my background of being in previous leadership positions and currently being a freshman who has innovative ideas to contribute to the betterment of the Syracuse community, I will be an ideal candidate for this position. |
Triston Ezidore Candidate for Assembly (First Year) | The Student Association and the structure of powers surrounding student government were the main reasons I chose Syracuse University. Being a part of the assembly's governing body works in tandem with my moral obligation to fight unequivocally for the students. As a student employee in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, I’ll strive to implement our moral obligation to equitable and just solutions into every decision that comes before the assembly. I will consistently invite the administration to consider the voices and experiences of students as we evaluate policies and practices intended precisely to serve and improve the lives of our students. I want to join the assembly with a sense of urgency and idealism about making social change by making myself present in key areas of school leadership, and with education in American government and public policy I want to be on the back end of those restorative changes. Although we are better than we used to be, we are still not who we can be. Lets lead with fresh, new, and progressive ideas and work towards a promised land where generations feel limitless. |
