Anna Ginelli Candidate for Assembly (Newhouse) |
As an undergraduate at Syracuse University, I think that I would greatly benefit the Student Association’s General Assembly if I were to be elected as an At-Large Representative. I have strong interpersonal skills, extensive leadership experience, and forward-thinking policies that I think would further bring our student body together. I would consider myself very compassionate, outspoken, and strategic. Compassion applies to being a representative because you have to consider how the people you are representing will receive your actions. Additionally, being outspoken is vital as a representative, especially in our large university. It is important to be able to speak up when you believe something is wrong. Finally, strategy is also important to being a representative. The past year or so has been anything but predictable and being strategic and working around a crisis is what really makes an organization strong. My experience as a Student Council Treasurer throughout the entirety of my high school career would also be greatly beneficial to the General Assembly. I have experience planning fundraisers for various causes, actively participating in executive meetings, and leading discussions. My most notable works include initiating a diverse, gender-neutral homecoming court and petitioning for the school cafeteria to expand its vegan options. I truly believe that I will contribute to the prosperity of the Student Association. I would really like to further contribute to the positive atmosphere at Syracuse University and serve as a liaison between Student Association executives and the student body. I also want to focus on amplifying minority voices. I will make sure to listen to the opinions of the student body and bring these ideas to every General Assembly meeting. |
Rachel Kern Candidate for Assembly (Newhouse) |
I am writing to express my sincere interest in being a part of the 65th Legislative Session of
Student Association. This extraordinary university and connected community have endless
opportunities and a vastly diverse and enthusiastic student body in which I want to make a
change and leave a lasting impact. My passion for social justice, politics, and communications
give me the ability to be open and inclusive while making an effort to strive for support for
myself as well as my peers. With my hard work, care, strength, and passion, I wish to be a connecting link between the faculty and students as well as a voice for my peers. My communication skills have proven that I am responsible and honest in the way that I connect with my family, friends, peers, and professionals. With a variety of leadership positions over the last 5 years in political organizations, school clubs, and jobs that I have held, I have learned a variety of skills that have made me who I am today as well as the importance of leadership and teamwork. My participation in government in both New York State and on a national level has taught me so much about understanding and listening to constituents and what needs to be changed. During the last four years, I have worked on Jews4Joe and Jewish Unity PAC to get Joe Biden elected, lead a youth advisory committee for a congressional campaign in my district, and was a special assistant and senior intern on a winning Manhattan wide campaign. I gained so much from these experiences and believe that I could bring my knowledge and passion to the Student Association while being open to learning from my fellow members. I have also learned how to effectively manage time and work with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds which is a key component to connecting with the entire SU community. Something I value in all aspects of my life is feeling connected. I believe that feeling supported is incredibly important, especially on a college campus. Being able to participate in Student Association would give me the space and resources to make sure that every student here feels like they have a support system that is easily accessible. During my first few weeks at SU, I have felt somewhat supported by the faculty and residential staff. But many of my peers do not feel this way. With a school with nearly 15,000 undergraduate students, it is so easy to feel lost or alone with both schoolwork and academic social life as well as physical health. I would like to implement systems that would aid all students with the proper support that caters to certain needs and are accessible. I sincerely thank you for your consideration of my application. It would be a true honor to serve this incredible University and work with others who feel as passionate about this great institution as I do. |
