David Bruen Darnelle Stinfort Candidates for President/Vice President |
Dear Syracuse University and SUNY-ESF Students, Among the many fees that we pay every year, one of them is the Student Activity Fee, which makes you a member of the Student Association (SA) and provides you certain rights. Here are a few of your rights, enumerated in the SA Constitution:
That'fs why we, David Bruen and Darnelle Stinfort, have decided to run for Student Association President and Vice President to change the perspective of our problems and to offer new solutions on how to address them. We have campaign pillars that will offer ideas that are new and old, big and small, but we plan to be different from past campaigns through depth and specificity. Our campaign policy platform is based on four pillars:
One of the recurring themes of our campaign is called gthe big ideas and the little ideash because, in the past, SA campaigns and administrations were judged purely by what ebig ideasf they had and implemented. We plan to work towards ebig ideasf too, but wefre going to also do the work on the esmaller ideasf which have not received the attention or energy that they deser.ve Another theme of ours is called gInformed and Engagedh because, as was said before, not every student is aware of what the Student Association is or what it does, and we know this is a problem. The first and most clear solution is to do initiatives that inform students. But we must recognize that there is an additional problem: engagement. To increase the number of students who are actively involved and engaged in SA, we must do more to affect studentsf daily lives in a positive way so that they actually care to be engaged. |
Nyah Jones
Candidate for Comptroller |
My name is Nyah Jones and I would like to serve my fellow student body as Comptroller for the
2021-2022 school year. I have had the honor and the pleasure of being a member of the Finance
Board for over a year. I have seen so much great progress under the leadership of Stacy Omosa
and Julio Burgos. I have also been able to develop my own ideas for growth that I believe would
greatly benefit the student body. As a member of both the Student Association and a member of
several RSOs on-campus I have been able to see firsthand the impact that Student organizations
and the events that they hold have had on not only my experience as a Syracuse University
student but the opportunities that I have been able to gain because of them. This combination of
student experiences and leadership experiences ranging from volunteer work, athletic, and
academic has allowed me to develop into not only a better leader but a better listener as well.
Being in leadership positions has given me experiences with not only helping others but also
listening to the opinions and concerns of my peers. As Comptroller I would like to continue in seeing more transparency in the budgets that are approved and denied, making the student body more aware of their right to not only transparency but the purpose of the Finance Board and its importance to their student experience. I would like to add optional fiscal training workshops that are open to all members of RSOs so they too can know what is happening in a process that is so crucial to the funding of student events and organizations. I would also like to make the finance codes more visible and more readily accessible so it is not a challenge for students to be aware of the finance codes. I believe that the combination of my passion for my fellow students at Syracuse University and my experience on the Finance Board would make me a great candidate for Comptroller. Thank You for your time, Nyah Jones |
