Dylan France
Candidate for Assembly (Whitman)
My name is Dylan France, and I am interested in being a Student Association Whitman Assembly Representative. First, to provide some background, I am a Sophomore in the Whitman School of Management studying Finance with the intention to minor in Global Political Economy. Outside of the classroom, I am part of Wellslink and the Black Honors Society, participate in the Investment Club, the E-Sports club, and the Student Association Finance board. In Finance Board, I have seen a large portion of Syracuse University's unique and robust programming through the pandemic and now rising out of the pandemic. However, as a member of Assembly, I know that I can further contribute to Student Association by representing both Whitman and Syracuse as a whole, bringing new ideas, and enacting other proposals to create impactful legislation for the school.

Finance Board has given me a lens to see the desires of students through the club proposals. The board's votes enable organizations to spread their club's cultures, interests, and beliefs amongst themselves, the university, and the greater Syracuse community. It has also helped me understand that the Finance Board works as a cog within the larger system that is Student Association. Together, SA enacts major initiatives that change the school for the better. Through the time that I've spent on campus, SA, under the leadership of Justine Hastings and David Bruen, has supported and enacted initiatives such as Not Again SU, student involvement in the Board of Trustees, student accessibility, mental health resources, and many more quality-of-life improvements for students. However, beyond just seeing the changes in front of me, I also want to contribute to the ongoing and future initiatives in SA. For example, the lighting systems are inadequate despite the on-campus strong blue light systems and lighting beyond the school buildings to particular housing. Between the roads to BBB, Sadler/Lawrenson, and the upperclassmen housing, not only are the lighting system lacking, but there are 0-1 blue lights on the direct routes to residential buildings. Another idea that I have involves the arguably irrational nature of the Whitman grading system that creates an unwarranted hostility, shifting the responsibility of quality teaching onto the students of Whitman. There are ongoing initiatives from Justine's and David's campaigns that I also strongly agree with that I want to support their implementation. Though I couldn't attempt to summarize all of the desires I hold for the future of SA, I do believe that the combination of my knowledge from the Finance Board, prior experiences outside of SA, and my passion for Syracuse as a whole is why I would be a great fit as a member of the Student Association Whitman Assembly Representative.

Haig Chakamian
Candidate for Assembly (Whitman)
My name is Haig Chakamian, and I am a sophomore standing studying Marketing Management and Business Analytics at the Whitman School of Management. I have always been interested in Syracuse’s operations and how it has been run.

I became interested in joining the Student Association after talking with a colleague who is already a member. After a great conversation with him, I found the SA to be a perfect way to make a difference in the Syracuse University community through a position of leadership. I highly enjoy being a part of the SU community, being a part of organizations on campus such as Delta Sigma Pi, Syracuse University Investment Club, The Pulp Marketing Club, Enactus, and the Franklin Supply Chain Club. Overall, being involved so extensively on campus has allowed me to grow my network and express my ideas and concerns whilst educating myself more about each organization.

Looking more into the position, I find it very meaningful and fulfilling be a part of the governing body between the students and its administration. As we are returning to more events being hosted in person, I am incredibly excited to participate in its transition. Working with the community, I feel that I can be an esteemed member of the assembly by giving ears to the students and a voice to the administration. I trust that I can support your endeavors to teach the students and be able to take part in the weekly meetings of the overall association.

Julia Gomez
Candidate for Assembly (Whitman)
My name is Julia Gomez and I’m a Syracuse Whitman freshman majoring in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises. I am writing to you today to provide and prove my intent to serve as a First Year Assembly Representative at Syracuse University’s student association. As a recent graduate from my high school’s student government and serving as my school’s class council’s treasurer, I believe that I would be an ideal candidate for the First Year Assembly Representative position.

In addition to holding those positions, I participated in the YMCA Youth and Government program. This was a model legislature program in which high school students met together at the state capitol to discuss and pass legislation. Throughout my experience I passed two bills that were signed by our "Youth Governor" as well as I ran and was elected as the President Pro-Tempore of the Senate. My involvement in these activities allowed me to grow my public speaking, budgeting, communication and leadership skills. Most importantly, I learned how to properly manage and work with a team in order to reach a common goal.

I believe that at Syracuse’s student association these skills will be imperative in order to better the lives of my fellow students. And if elected, I plan to perform to the best of my capabilities to achieve the goals of the organization and the students at Syracuse University.
